Guardianship and Conservatorship

Guardians and conservators are appointed by the court to make decisions on behalf of another person. This website provides:

Guardianship and Conservatorship Coordinators are available in each of Idaho’s judicial districts. They can answer questions about serving in these roles, direct you to resources, and help you understand the reporting process. The Idaho Supreme Court requires prospective guardians and conservators to complete a training course before permanent letters can be issued. The course explains the responsibilities, legal requirements, and expectations for each role.

About the Training

Required for all petitioners seeking appointment

Fee: $25, collected by the county clerk under Section 31-3201G, Idaho Code, and Idaho Court Administrative Rule 54

A Petitioner's Receipt Number is issued once payment is made

Certificates of completion must be filed with the county clerk

Available for individuals who want general information, even if a certificate is not required

Important Notes

Courses do not run on phones or tablets

Your progress does not save—complete the course in one session

Idaho Court Administrative Rule 54 requires every proposed guardian or conservator to complete the online training before receiving permanent letters. Courts may waive the training or fee for good cause.
